Tension flared up at Al-Aqsa Mosque on Sunday, October 25, when hundreds of Israeli troops stormed the Islamic holy site, beating worshipers and firing tear-gas shells, rubber-coated bullets and stun grenades.
“They are beating people and desecrating the holy place in utter disregard for civility and human decency,” Adnan al-Husseini, the highest-ranking Muslim Wakf official, told IslamOnline.net.
“They are clamping a siege to the Aqsa Mosque and preventing Muslims from accessing the place.”
According to eyewitnesses, at least 10 Palestinians were injured, some badly, while others suffered tear gas inhalation.
As many as 20 Palestinians were arrested.
Yesterday I broadcasted live information for hours over Twitter about the situation in Jerusalem, partially because I knew people would be interested to know and because the mainstream media was completely silent about the issue.
The attack on worshippers at Al Aqsa mosque did not begin at random and was clearly premeditated:
The al-Aqsa foundation, in a press release earlier this week, has declared that Israeli fundamentalist groups are calling on their supporters to break into the al-Aqsa Mosque in the old city of Jerusalem (al-Quds).
The foundation had revealed that radical Israeli groups are planning a ceremony on Sunday evening, dedicated to the “Temple Mount” day, during which they would call for breaking into the al-Aqsa Mosque.
On the 15 of October,10 days ago, it was reported that “Extremist Jewish organizations in Israel have demanded that the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock from East Jerusalem Al-Quds be transferred to Mecca.”
Gershon Salomon is seeking the removal of the mosques from East Jerusalem Al-Quds, which Israel occupied during the 1967 aggression and illegally annexed it later despite international opposition, Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth reported on Wednesday.
The founder and leader of the ultra-Orthodox Temple Mount and Eretz Yisrael Faithful Movement plans to have Israeli engineers transfer the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock to the Muslims’ holy city of Mecca, the daily added.
The Israeli paper also quoted ultra-right Yehuda Etzion, who is associated with Israeli spy agencies, as saying that blowing up of the Muslim sanctities would become ‘inevitable’ to if Tel Aviv fails to dissemble and transfer the edifices.
Etzion was jailed for five years in the 1980s for a plot to explode the mosques on the Noble Sanctuary (Haram al-Sharif), and has vowed he would do the same again.
Live footage being broadcasted by international media outlets like Al Jazeera, Al QudsTV and NewTV revealed the stern bravery of the Palestinians who were being attacked indiscriminately by Israeli Occupation Forces.
Palestinian youth began throwing rocks as Israeli soldiers opened fire on the crowd while some who were not firing began throwing sound bombs and tear gas.
What struck me as most disturbing was that the Israeli Occupation Forces shot live ammunition at the electrical generator of Al Aqsa so that the Muslim Adhan (call to prayer) would not sound.
Why would they want to stop the Adhan?
Muslims from the surrounding area come early to prayer and when the call to prayer is heard that is when they know to come to the mosque and worship. If they do not hear the sound of the Adhan they will assume it is still early or otherwise thus will not be able to see what is happening. The Israeli Occupation Forces were deliberately trying to prevent worshippers from coming because they knew that the more Palestinians who were to see what they were doing, the bigger chance of an uprising.
This attack on Al Aqsa was not enough for the Israeli forces as they lay siege on the compound – The Dome of The Rock was quickly captured by the occupation forces as Palestinians called on one another to unite in defense of the mosques.
Sheikh Muhammed Hussein, a prominent scholar and religious leader, described the situation at Al Aqsa as “very dangerous [...] the Israeli soldiers [beat] everyone, including women and children,” he said.
Yesterday, Muslim leaders urged Muslims to flock to Al Aqsa Mosque to repulse renewed attempts by government-backed Jewish zealots to arrogate a foothold at the exclusively Islamic shrine.
The Palestinians have officially accused the Israeli occupation forces and their proxy jewish extremists of playing with fire. ”They are trying to prove that they are the masters here, that they have sovereignty over the holy place,” said Hussein.
Footage From Inside Al Aqsa,As Israeli’s Fired On Defenseless Worshippers:
Christian and Muslim Arabs have united in defense of Al Aqsa but this is not the first time the Coptics and Muslims have joined hands to fight for one another.
Back in March Christian intellectuals urged fellow Arabs to join the campaign to defend “our existence, which starts from Al-Aqsa, against this Zionist danger.”
Muslim and Christian leaders in Jerusalem have long backed the formation of a joint front to defend the city and its holy sites.
The normality of Israeli attacks on Al Aqsa has caused many scholars and leaders to declare what happened yesterday as a state of emergency and protests are already being created, including in Lebanon which will hold a demonstration tomorrow.
The ‘most moral army’ in the world, as Olmert described the IDF, has crossed a red line and this blatant attack on defenseless worshippers will not go unanswered.
Al Aqsa is no long calling us to come to her aid,she is screaming for us.
Will we answer her cries?
